Our Journey
Many years ago, Ástvaldus Óskarsson, also known as "Valdi Víbon," embarked on a journey to the glacial terrains of western Canada. It was during this trip that a dream ignited within him - to create an unforgettable adventure inspired by the glacier buses of Colombia Icefield National Park and bring it to his home country of Iceland.
Valdi's vision was clear - to provide a thrilling and immersive experience amidst the magnificent glaciers of Iceland. With unwavering determination, he set out to make his dream a reality.
Inspired by the glacier buses of Canada, Valdi dedicated himself to the meticulous creation of a unique and remarkable vehicle. After almost two years of hard work, the first 8-wheel Monster Bus, also known as a Red Monster Truck, was born. Valdi's unwavering commitment to safety and comfort led to numerous refinements until perfection was achieved.
There was one essential aspect that needed to be addressed - a name that would capture the essence of this extraordinary creation. After deep contemplation and profound insights, Valdi decided to name the truck and his company "Sleipnir," paying homage to the legendary eight-legged horse from Norse mythology. This name not only reflected the truck's 8 enormous wheels, crucial for traversing Iceland's rugged terrain but also embodied the spirit of adventure and strength.
Today, Sleipnir roams the icy landscapes of Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier, captivating all who behold it. With its impressive size and distinctive design, Sleipnir is often acclaimed as the largest glacier bus, and quite possibly the largest group bus globally. It proudly showcases massive 78-inch tires and an imposing body, a testament to Valdi's pursuit of perfection.
After approximately two years, Sleipnir welcomed its sibling, Sleipnir 2, born from a collaboration with the renowned Tatra Czech manufacturer. Though slightly smaller with 65-inch tires, Sleipnir 2 carries the same spirit of exploration and promises an equally remarkable experience.
Valdi's dream of bringing an awe-inspiring adventure from Canada to Iceland became a reality, giving locals and visitors alike an opportunity to embark on unforgettable journeys amidst Iceland's majestic glaciers.
Our Evolution
